110 Awesome Things I Want to Do Before I Die

Reading Time: 4 minutes

“It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.” – Paulo Coelho

Life without possibility is boring and uninspiring.  But it’s easy to fall into living a life without possibility.

As a kid, we have no problem dreaming. Possibility is our toy of choice. But as we enter university and then post-graduate life, this feeling of infinite possibility begins to wane.

The stresses and obligations of adulthood start to take a toll. Our lives become more complex. We find comfort in our routines. And without us realizing it, the world starts to narrow.

We start to live in the world of real and imagined constraints. We live in a world of “I wish I could, but I can’t.” As we adjust to this new world, we do a great job of creating narratives to support why we can’t do certain things. Under these narratives, possibility slowly suffocates.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. The possibility is still there. You just have to remove the constraints and give yourself the time and space to think. Here’s how you re-enter the world of possibility.

Imagine you have the right skills, relationships, money, flexibility, and fitness to do everything you can think of. Remove the constraints. Forget the narratives. And then:

Write down all the awesome things you want to do before you die.

Don’t worry about being “realistic.” Brainstorm without constraint for 30 minutes. Think of ideas across all the areas of your life – business, contribution, travel, personal development, and so on. Begin to see possibility again.

Observe how you feel at the end of this exercise. Revisit the practice whenever you slip back into the uninspiring world of constraints.

When you define a vision and set of possibilities for your life, you will be excited to wake up. Instead of staying under the covers and resisting life “for 5 more minutes,” you will get up with the energy and drive to make your vision a reality. That’s living.

Below is my list from the exercise.
